Our Club, under the name of Rotary Club of Sonipat Midtown, came into existence in June 1979 and was chartered on 23rd October 1979, by the then District Governor Rtn. Prem Bhalla and DG Rtn. Harish Malhotra of the combined Rotary District 3010 (now 3011 & 3012) with the initial membership of 22 Rotarians, of course, most of them, Rotaractors.
The RI Theme was ‘LET SERVICE LIGHT THE WAY.’ PDG Late Rtn. S.P. Sachdeva took the initiative and finally gave birth to our Club with the spiritual man, Late Rtn. Karam Singh Bansal Ji as President. As envisaged in our constitution, we have to meet twice/four times a month. At present, Saturday is considered an exceptionally good day for our Meetings.
We have glimpses of multi-dimensional personalities over the years at our Club, viz. Governor of Haryana, Sh. H.M.S. Burney, Former Prime Minister, Late Sh. I.K. Gujral, Sh. Karan Singh, Ms. Kiran Bedi, I.P.S. and Late Sh. Romesh Bhandari, Late Sh. Vinod Dua & Sh. Pawan Duggal (TV Anchor) and many other VIPs have paid their visit to our Club. So much so, Past Rotary International President, Rtn. Rajinder K. Saboo has visited our Club. Our Club also formed new Rotary Clubs in our District, like the Rotary Club of Ganaur, Rotary Club of Sonipat Uptown, RC of Sonipat Rising Star & Rotary Club of Kundli. We firmly believe in qualitative growth. We have at present running strength of 101 Rotarians.
We have sponsored College based Rotaract at GVM College, Ashoka University, GVMITM, Rotaract Sonipat Midtown, RC of Sonipat Star, and school-based Interact at Droan Vidya Peeth School, Sonipat, GSSS (Girls) at Rajpur Ganaur, Gita Vidya Mandir, Modern School, Kundli & Shreejee Int. School. We have formed RVCs in our adopted villages, Shahzadpur, Shahjahanpur, Mohan Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, and Sapara Basti near Murthal (Sonipat). Our Club has done commendable Service in these villages. Our Club Senior Members PP Rtn. R.K. Kumra & PP Rtn. Ashok Sharma published books – ‘ABC of Rotary’ & ‘Sonipat-Marching Ahead’ respectively.
Our Club now publishes the colored ‘SNEHEE’ Bulletin fortnightly, which is always Award-winning and liked by all the District Authorities. Our Club has 3 Major Donors and became a 100% Foundation Giving Club & 100% PHF Club in 2019-20.
Earlier, we have hosted many successful Rotaract District Conferences, Vocational Service Conference, District Sonipat, Polio Plus Seminar, Membership Development Workshop, Career Guidance Workshop for Sonipat Students/Teachers, Career Guidance Book was published, organized RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award), Eye Machines for Rupees 16.00 lacs at Aarogyadham, Sonipat and installed Eye Refractometer at Charan Dass Charitable Trust at Geeta Bhawan, Sonipat and provisions of drinking water in our Rajiv Nagar (behind Holy Child) School/RVC and Washing Stations under Rotary WinS Programme. We have also installed RO Plant & Water Cooler at Guru Tegh Bahadur Kanya Pathshala, Hem Nagar, Sonipat.
Installed 5 Defibrillators in different places in District, started Singer Sewing Machine Centre at GVM Girls College(27 machines installed), and handed over 42225 PPE Kits to the BPS Medical College, Khanpur, under Global Grant during Covid-19 Pandemic. Under Project ‘ROSHNI,’ six Cataract Surgeries, E-Rickshaw was given to the handicapped. Our Club donated a full Body Bus to Rotary Blood Bank under Rotary Global Grant. Our Traditional projects are Beautification of the Town, Blood Donation Camps, Ecology & Tree Plantation, and Vocational Service Award to deserving citizens of the Town, Health Checkup Camp in RVCs, and Vaccination Camps, where we provide free/concessional medicines to the neediest and downtrodden people. Our Club organized Body Health Care Camps. We give equal importance to religion by organizing religious meetings. Our projects under Empowerment of Women in GSSS, Rajpur, and Jakholi are very effective.
We have our own Community Hall at Atlas Road, near Ram Mandir, which is being used for our meetings, and we also gave the same for public use for poor families. That the Rotary Community Centre is well-equipped with the Solar Energy System under CSR Programme (Grid Related), and it was installed in June 2018. The RCC was also renovated, and two new toilets (under Swachh Baharat Abhiyaan) for men & women were constructed. Also, our Hall is now beautifully renovated and now equipped with ACs and under Camera surveillance with full greenery.
Our Club is a regular recipient of outstanding Awards & Recognition for excellent performances in all Avenues. Our Club has been recognized as one of the Best Clubs in the District a number of times, especially in the field of Community Services. In 2019-20, our District added another feather to our Club’s crown by declaring Best Club of the District, Kohinoor President, Secretary, Best Club Trophy, and declared many Outstanding Rotarians. Best Award besides other Awards & Peace through Service, Best President Trophy and Governor’s Distinguished Award, Best Maharaja Club & Ratna Club Award. Our Interact Club received Two Special Recognition.
